The prototypes that are being developed by the SIMAC Consortium are:
FOAFING THE MUSIC makes use of information available on other websites (in the form of thousands of RSS feeds) to recommend you music that you'll love!
The system uses the vocabulary created in the Friend of a Friend (FOAF) project to define user preferences. The FOAF project is about creating a Web of machine-readable homepages describing people, the links between them and the things they create and do.
If a user has a LiveJournal account, she can directly use the system (as
Livejournal exports user's profile in the FOAF's RDF/XML format).
Moreover, the system gets noticed of user's listening habits (using user's last.fm account and the Audioscrobbler plugin). This way, the user is always discovering new and exciting music, based on the music she listens to.
Then, based on user's profile and user's listening habits the system recommends:
* Artists similars to the ones the user like
* New music releases from user's favourite and recommended artists (from sources such as: iTunes, Amazon, Yahoo shopping and the like)
* Related MP3-blogs to download
* Podcast sessions to stream/download
* Automatic creation of playlists based on acoustic and musical similarity calculated from the audio
* Incoming concerts close to user's city
* Artists' related news
Last but not least, if the user has a Webjay account, she can even play all the playlists in our music player, and view related playlists from other users.
